James Bennett was born 1755 in Granville Co, NC and died 25 March 1825 in Spartanburg, SC.

He was on a list of Granville militia in 1771 under Captain William Bueford and on Granville Co., NC tax lists in 1765, 1768, 1771 and 1777.

He bought land in Granville County, North Carolina on Knap of Reed’s Creek near his brother, William, in 1772. James and Sarah sold this land in 1780 and, according to a deed, moved to Spartanburg County, S. C. on Little Dutchman’s Creek. He received a tract of land here from South Carolina 11 Aug 1784. He bought 200 acres of land on both sides of Dutchman Creek 3 Aug 1804.

It was in Spartanburg County that many of their children were born and here is where James died 25 March 1825 and Sarah died 11 April 1835.

He married Sarah/Sally. She died 11 April 1835 in Spartanburg, SC.

Selah Bennett (born 26 February 1780); married William Turley

Williams Bennett (born 21 April 1783); married Sarah Langston and lived in Gordon Co, GA

Mark Bennett (born 8 May 1785; died 1 September 1854); never married and lived on the old homeplace in Spartanburg, SC

James Bennett (born 10 May 1787); married Precious Wofford, Delilah West, and Malissa/Melicia (unknown) and lived in Spartanburg, SC

Hiram Bennett (born 28 November 1788); married Rebecca Anderson and lived in Gordon Co, GA

Sarah Bennett (born 13 June 1793); married James W. Wofford and lived in Gordon Co, GA

Jorial Bennett (born 22 May 1796); married Sarah Jenkins and lived in Wilkerson Co, GA

Jane Bennett (born 7 February 1798); married Isaac Wofford and lived in Gordon Co, GA

Mary Bennett (born 21 August 1789); did not marry and lived at old homeplace with her brother Mark
